Mastery-Skill, Character or Luck?

Do I want to make a difference in my life? Do I know where to start? I need to have faith and courage in my entrepreneurial calling. We each have an important mission to fulfill. It is up to us to find that out through study, prayer and our patriarchal blessing. Our patriarchal blessing helps us to know what gifts we have and what gifts we need to develop. I need to ask 5 people that know me well what are some things that I do better than anyone else in the world. It is important to live life like you matter and do those things that we know are right and good.

What is a hero's journey? It is where you are called to do something, going from what you already know to the unknown territory of what you are called to accomplish. Through this journey will be trials, but there will be mentors along the way to help us. Through these experiences, we will be transformed and made into who we were meant to be. What matters most is how we are changed in the process of becoming.

What are the guardrails, or "I will nots...." that I will not cross? I need to write a letter to myself and before I cross the guardrail of "I will not...", I will read the letter to myself and help me refocus on my priorities and what matters most to me.

We need to find good role models and ask them good questions. By doing this, we can find how they were able to succeed in what they are doing. They can help us along our journey to our goals and success. Surrounding myself with people of good character will allow me to become like them. I need to identify who I am grateful for and write them a letter expressing my gratitude to them for all they have done for me. Beware of pride. Humility is the key to success.

The talk by President Faust titled, Perseverance was inspiring to me as well. He mentions that if we persevere in callings we are given at church, "the Lord will open up the way and guide me to other opportunities and blessings, even beyond my dreams." This was such a hopeful statement that encourages me to magnify my callings knowing that the Lord will bless me and my family for my service to Him.
These are the 8 things President Faust mentions of ways persevering in our callings will bless us.
1. How to organize and use time wisely.
2. The importance of hard work.
3. Leadership skills
4. People skills
5. The value of gospel study
6. Respect for authority
7. The importance of prayer
8. Humility and dependence on the Lord.
Perseverance is more important than knowledge or skill. Because over time, as a result of persevering, we will gain the knowledge and skill if we, as the saying goes, "stick to the job and the job will stick to us."
If we stay the course and show up every day and get up when we fall, we will succeed!

Something else I learned this week is the advice of mastering a skill. I have so many interests that as a result, I am not a master of all of them. I see the wisdom now in mastering a skill so that I can be valuable to those around me in that skill set.

At the end of my life, I would want the Savior to say "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." I pray that I will find my calling and use the gifts He has blessed me with. I will be grateful to the mentors that have mentored me along my path and show others the way along their journey.
