Honesty and Business Ethics

The themes that keep coming up in this week's learning is believe in yourself, have faith, be honest with God, yourself and others; do what you love, and stay out of jail. When starting a business, it is important to define your core values and to adhere to them throughout your life.

How will you measure your life? Clay Christensen says we need to have a strategy for our life. Take time to figure out the purpose of your life. Spend an hour every night reading, praying, thinking about why God put you on this earth. Over time, the answer will be revealed to you.  Without a purpose, our lives will have little meaning.

Think about the most humble person you know. They likely have high self-esteem and know who they are and they feel good about who they are. Good behavior flows from humility. Humility truly is the key to success. I read that pride will make us fake and humility will make us real and relate able. People want to feel that they can relate to you and trust you in every way.

Would you steal from someone you respected? Is is generally those who are arrogant and with low self-esteem are abusive or untrustworthy. Clay Christensen says the lesson is: It is easier to hold to your principles 100% of the time than it is to hold to them 98% of the time. Can we ask the Lord's blessings with a clear conscience?

Sharon Mays said, "Either do it, or stop talking about it."We need to let go of our fears when deciding on starting a business. The only person holding you back is you. Find out what your dream is and give it life.

Sister Sheri Dew shared 7 ways to become a person of Integrity.

1.       Decide today, once and for all, that you will be worthy of trust.
2.       Have faith that the Lord can and will help you, and then diligently seek His help.
3.       Make covenants and keep them.
4.       Stand up for what you believe.
5.       Expect your integrity to be challenged.
6.       Don’t give up.
7.       Covenant—or perhaps I should say, renew your covenant—with our Father and His Son to do what you came here to do.
When we are a person of integrity, those we come in contact with will trust us and will likely do more business with us in the future. A person with integrity will do the right thing even when no one is looking.

There are so many things we can do to build trust. We can smile at others, make them feel comfortable, give a kind word, give a compliment, give a positive word to those who may be struggling. We can also develop our spiritual gifts. As we do this, we are blessed with the gifts Heavenly Father desires for us to use to bless the lives of His children.

As I finished reading the Launching Leaders book, some things I will do immediately are to refine my core values, make sure the magic hour happens every morning by connecting with Heaven, and read more books on storytelling. I find storytelling very interesting as I have found in my life that explaining things in an interesting way will help capture the attention of those to whom we are speaking to.  I think by doing these things it will help me overcome my fears. There are so many valuable takeaways from this week.

The most important thing I learned is that the Lord will keep His promises, if I keep mine. He is so forgiving of our weaknesses if we just come unto Him. He watches over those who trust Him.
